Cartographers Want More From Manifold

A Manifold Map - not mine!

There’s a lively discussion, at Georeference, on Manifold’s cartographic capabilties, referring to a thread at CartoTalk, which has me wondering if I am in the minority of users who complete projects wholly within Manifold without exporting to a graphics package to refine it.

The majority of my projects end up as paper maps and my colleagues and clients have been happy with the end results. I’m very reluctant to break the link between the data and the final map by exporting to another package for editing.

Manifold does have its faults, those devil eared Ms and Ws come to mind, but nothing I can’t find a way around to get what I want, and maybe that’s the issue with the guys who use Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. to polish their maps – they don’t want to look for solutions to their issues within Manifold if it’s not apparent and they know a way to accomplish the task easily in their graphics program.
