I for one am not getting anxious, rather I find myself a little more exited than perhaps I ought to be by a piece of software and want my new toys now.
I would love Manifold.net to be a little less tight lipped than they are, but they never have been and are not shy about this policy and the reasons for it.

Seems Manifold's community is getting anxious?

I think the company at least owes their clients an explanation. Piss all over ESRI as much as you like, at least they're pretty upfront about what's going on.

dang,
I and (I suspect) many others were severely disappointed that 9? didn't see the light of day at the end of June as (I thought) we had been promised.
Having said this, I still have total faith that Manifold.net will deliver a world class product when it hits finally hits the street as they have done nothing else in the time that I have been using Manifold system (in preference to ArcGIS/MapInfo and GeoMedia, all of which I have worked with extensively and still have available).
Despite the fact that the company remains (in my opinion) overly tight lipped about everything, I accept that for better or worse, this is the way they choose to operate.
Without pointing any fingers, having seen the disasters of premature release of incomplete GIS software, I for one would rather that I see it when it is good and ready.

Absolutely right danb. And any Manifold user that did not hit the roof over that sleight of hand trick should be embarrassed. They have been played..Something is dreadfully wrong at Manifold, and they wont admit it

This sounds a bit like smoke and mirrors to me. It was my understanding that the main limitation of CUDA performance with Manifold 8 was that the remainder of the system was not sufficiently fast to saturate the GPU's.
As such one of the main engineering thrusts for 9? was to rewrite much of Manifold's core to remove all possible bottlenecks.
If this is the case, why would you spend time creating an add-on which would be perpetually hamstrung by the rest of the system?

Drake, loved your July 16/09 comment.

I wonder if those who don't think Manifold is best GIS will share with us what is?

There's no doubt Manifold has some shortcomings, and these may be significant to certain users. Nothing is perfect. But, who can argue with how these great new technologies are being incorporated in a very low-cost product. As long as that approach is followed, this is going to be the main tool of work in my GIS world.

David, don't be an ESRI troll. Manifold users know better.

Manifold is the real deal. You can't run Manifold without being blown away by how much you get and the quality of the software.

Manifold doesn't talk. They produce. ESRI talks and doesn't produce. They are years behind Manifold on spatial DBMS, CUDA and 64-bit. That tells you a lot right there. Manifold has engineers. ESRI has salesmen.

If you want to pay some sales rep to sit in a regional office you go right ahead. I don't need to pay some rep to give me excuses why ESRI costs more to do less. I'll buy online and pay less.

Will ESRI be there in 2 years?

Yes, I'm pretty sure they will be. I know people who work at ESRI, I know where their regional offices are, I know many users. If ESRI starts laying off people from their regional offices, you bet we'll all know about it, and can see the storm coming.

Is there any way you can see a storm coming for Manifold? No. Because you know nothing about them. You don't know any employees, you don't know anything about revenue, etc. You are in the dark.

This is starting to remind me of Bernie Madoff.
